Priceline is ABSOLUTELY scamming it’s customers. When they say the “Express Deal” is $20.00 cheaper and they charge you an extra $19.20 in “taxes and fees”, that is my definition of a S-C-A-M. (Fairly easy check - Ramsey MN, 6/17/22 - Comfort Suites). However, I’m not sure Priceline is setting the “taxes and fees”.

The reason for cheaper direct hotel booking vs. Priceline/Expedia/OTA is that instead of being frienemies, now hotels v OTA are outright enemies )). Hotels are much more aggressive now in trying to get you to book directly, so they don't have to pay 10-20% commission to Priceline et al.
