    A newly-issued contactless card will generally not work for a contactless transaction of any kind (on the TfL system or in a retailer) until it has had one transaction of a non-contactless type. That's true even for UK-issued cards. It's a security feature and may also require such activation outside the country/region of issue.

Some people have said card A worked but card B didn't, then someone else may find card A didn't but card B did.
