FYI. I got an alert from my Chase Marriott Visa that someone has been using my CC # for the last few weeks. Most charges were declined and they will remove the ones that went through successfuljy. I have only used that card once in the past 5 weeks and it was at Barefoot Restaurant in Aruba.
I recently booked my outbound journey from Madrid to Barcelona using my Chase Marriott VISA SIGNATURE (U.S. based credit card). I experienced the painful process -as many people- of getting my card rejected by RENFE. The reason being: RENFE uses 3D secure mode: Verified by Visa, which wouldn't approve the transaction.
Assuming the Chase Marriott card chip is the same as the Chase British Airways card chip (although mine is a Mastercard), I used it in the UK with pretty good results. It only didn't work in one train ticket machine, and my regular swipe card worked in that one. The machine would either not ask for a PIN or I would just push Enter when it did.

My account terms and number aren't changing, they are just sending me a new card with the new technology. If your bank can't give you a chip and pin card, there are companies out there who can. So yes, maybe not about Paris specifically, but I do know that last year at this time, I did not know anything about these cards.
