Rental car companies that accept North American issued Credit Card coverage do NOT accept any other ‘third party’ coverage such as trip insurance. Some vendors (such as Expedia) offer third party coverage — which CAN be REFUSED at the pick up counter, so it is ALWAYS best to book through the actual company, rather than through any intermediary, so that you know EXACTLY what ‘Terms and ...

I just rebooked our trip to Ireland again. Hopefully the third time is the charm! I'm in the process of booking a rental car and was wondering about the insurance. I've read that CDW is required in Ireland but when we originally booked for May 2020, I checked with my credit card and they said I could request a confirmation of coverage letter 2 weeks before we left.

2 reviews. 1 helpful vote. Car Rentals in Ireland - Do I need additional insurance? 3 years ago. I am planning a trip to Ireland this September. The plan is to rent a car and drive through the Ring of Kerry for a few days. I've been reading about the (confusing) state of car rentals in Ireland, as credit card coverage generally does not apply ...

Before your arrival buy a one year car hire all-inclusive insurance policy valid for a year in whatever region you choose I.e. Europe, USA etc. You may find that even if you only hire a car for one week in the year the policy cost will be less than any rentacars policy which always horrific ripoff.

American residents can purchase a car rental damage insurance policy underwritten in the US. This covers US residents traveling in the US and overseas (but) often excludes Ireland if the policy is a standalone car rental insurance policy - for example on Allianz Global Assistance or Bonzah.com in the US - when you select Ireland you get a message "This policy does not cover travel to Ireland"
