Wood's metal, also known as Lipowitz's alloy or by the commercial names Cerrobend, Bendalloy, Pewtalloy and MCP 158, is a metal alloy that is useful for soldering and making custom metal parts, but its fumes are toxic, as well as being toxic on skin exposure. The alloy is named for Barnabas Wood, who invented and patented the alloy in 1860.
A saturated water solution, of about 40% formaldehyde by volume or 37% by mass, is called "100% formalin". A small amount of stabilizer, such as methanol, is usually added to suppress oxidation and polymerization. A typical commercial-grade formalin may contain 10–12% methanol in addition to various metallic impurities.
Methanol for chemical use normally corresponds to Grade AA. In addition to water, typical impurities include acetone and ethanol (which are very difficult to separate by distillation). UV-vis spectroscopy is a convenient method for detecting aromatic impurities. Water content can be determined by the Karl-Fischer titration.
Lye. A lye is an alkali metal hydroxide. Traditionally it was obtained by using rainwater to leach wood ashes, which are strongly alkaline and highly soluble in water, of their potassium hydroxide (KOH), producing lye water, a caustic basic solution. Then the lye water would either be used as such, as for curing olives before brining them, or ...
Alkaline copper quaternary. Alkaline copper quaternary, usually abbreviated ACQ, is a type of water-based wood preservative product containing a soluble copper (II) complex and quaternary ammonium alkyl - or aryl -substituted compounds ("quats"). Thus the product was originally called ammoniacal copper/quaternary ammonium.
Copper naphthenate is commonly prepared by treatment of naphthenic acid with copper (II) compounds such as basic copper carbonate or copper hydroxide. [1] Even copper (II) sulfate can be treated with sodium or potassium naphthenate in aqueous solutions. The reaction of copper metal with naphthenic acid, which has been used commercially ...
Treatment or process aimed at extending the service life of wood structures. In moist and oxygenated soil, there are few treatments that enable vulnerable wood (softwood here) to resist for long against bacterial or fungal degradationDetail of sample in photo above. Woodeasily degrades without sufficient preservation.
I use Clear Care disinfecting contact lens solution and it does have travel sized bottle but instead of toting a dozen of these little bottles, I was hoping to purchase a comparable product or even better: the same product in Italy. We are only taking carryon luggage so we couldn't tote the large bottle. It is sold by Alcon/CIBAvision in the US.
