    Probably the best exchange rate outside of a bank is at Wal Mart. I would use cash to pay at Wal Mart and then get back change in pesos at a great exchange rate. I never had trouble there with a credit card, but I never used and will not use a debit card in Mexico anyway since the banks will kill you with the fees for using the card outside the US.

    2. Re: Walmart Questions. 18 years ago. The trip to WalMart is worthwhile if you are planning to stock up. They have a large selection of liquor and it's cheaper than the airport duty free. There's a nice little cigar shop in there, and they have a limited selection of souveniers. I bought a beach bag for $10.
