Thanks. It appears there's no AAA discount on Hertz right now except for weekend and weekly rentals (I'm renting for 4 weekdays). Hertz has a 25% off discount coupon code, but it only allows one CDP code, so it won't let me enter my AAA information to get the free second driver.

There is no mention of a charge for a 65+ driver. I called them and got the same information. I think there is some misunderstanding here.
The T&C's for that CDP code cleary states: * Offer only valid if purchased using Visa Classic and quoting CDP 618583 (Classic) at time of reservation to receive their discount * A VISA Classic credit card to be presented at rental counter and for payment. applicable to AMEX AVIS certificate holders. Also, if you follow the instructions and go thru AMEXMR, the published rates are 10-15% higher than those obtained thru the AVIS website. Thus on a $1,000 rental thru AVIS. the same rental thru AVISMR is $1,100. In effect a $100 certificate is worthless.

Stick with the majors, such as Hertz, Avis, National, Thrifty, Alamo, Budget, Dollar, and you're less likely to have problems. It also helps to join a "frequent renter" club with a car rental company: Hertz - #1 Club; National - Emerald Club; Avis - My Avis; etc. There are really no hidden fees.
