    10. Re: Map to avoid scary mountain roads. At the risk of my father cringing in his grave because he was instrumental in the design and construction of the interstate highway system back in the day, stick to the boring, designed for safety, interstate highway system. That route would be I 25 south to I 40 west.

What I'm trying to avoid is (nighttime) driving, planing to leave at 5 am from VA, then arrive evening KC, then first thing 5-6 am start on the way to Denver. 1. Re: Drive from Denver to Mount Rushmore. 6 years ago. I'll just recommend the K Bar S Lodge in Keystone, SD. Literally right next to Rushmore, and you can see the guys from some of the rooms. Great place. It's about 7 hours from Denver to Rushmore with minimal stops.

Go to Google Maps and type in "Denver" and then "Directions" and then "Virginia Beach" and your route will come up. You can look at the other Interstates that you could take. I-81 to 40 to Oklahoma City, then I-35 to 70 is one way that I would probably take. Adds about 4 hours driving time to the trip, but not bad when spread out over 4 days.
