A better option would be in- car gps. Best would be Japanese gps apps as they offer all features of in- car gps plus up to date map data. MapFan + has English voice prompt and somewhat bilingual interface. However given the relatively simple road network in Okinawa google maps should work well enough for the routing.

(a Japanese mapping company) own the rights to the entire Japan cartographic area, and unlike most other countries, won't give it up to Google Maps for offline use.
