I read that Tappanzee bridge and I 684 and I 84 is the preferred route vs I95 but I’m wondering why as it adds about 50 min to the driving time. I took I95 to Ct last year and only recall hating the drive around NY but other than that it was fine traffic wise.

1. Re: Drive from NJ to Williamsburg. 19 years ago. We live in New Jersey and travel to Williamsburg all the time. There are basically two ways to get there. If you take 95 to 64, it's a pretty straight shot (about 6 hours if you're lucky). However, there is almost always congestion and major backups around Washington D.C. and Baltimore.
