There are phone numbers to call, but you can be waiting a long time. The people who eventually answer do seem pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful. From reading the Airbnb forums, it seems the easiest or fastest way to get hold of them is through Twitter, but I'm not a Twitter user so I've never tried that way.

8 years ago. Generally, AirBnBs will be in residential areas, and hotels will be in popular/commercial areas. For hotels, the most common areas are Union Square, the Embarcadero /downtown waterfront, Fisherman's Wharf and Lombard Street /Cow Hollow. The only one of those which also has AirBnBs will be Cow Hollow.
The rentals have to be licensed and you can ask the landlord for their number and also use the TQs below to check yourself. By the way airbnb is Headquartered here in SF. Vacation Rentals Locations AND IMPORTANT ADVISORY about RENTALS ( Aug 2017) There has been a lot of noise and disruption of the rental market in 2014.
look I have not seen any issues with the location here in SF. But as mentioned people have to check if the rental is licensed. If you are getting nervous -- not sure what we can say.
