I rent all the time through National/Alamo, and the hold has ranged from $0.00 for a prepaid rental, $5.40, the amount of a taxes and fees for a free rental day, to the full amount of a two week rental. 2. Re: Alamo credit card hold. We always use the skip the counter feature with Alamo at the Orlando Airport. It truly is fantastic and I highly recommend it! You reserve your car online and then walk through several additional steps to use the skip the counter feature. It asks you questions about add on insurance and things like that.
The only effect it had was to reduce the credit I had available by $140 for a few days. I have rented twice since then and the same thing happened, neither of the rentals was with Alamo. (Avis and Europcar) All I am saying is if I hadn't looked in the Pending Transactions, I might not have noticed that a hold had been placed on my Credit Card

One of the things I like about Alamo is that they only require an authorization for the amount of the rental when using a credit card. They've never held any additional amount as a deposit. However, if you use a debit card (which can be used with proof of round-trip travel)...there may be a $300 deposit held (as is done when using cash).
Answer 11 of 12: We are travelling in 2 weeks, and have a car booked through Virgin. We have their Platinum package which include a tank of petrol already paid, so we will check in on line before we go.
