If you're really going to be carrying 7 people, a minivan like a Toyota Siena or Honda Odyssey is going to be a much more pleasant experience. More luggage space, as well. Answer 1 of 5: We will be picking up a Standard Elite SUV Ford Explorer from budget ORD, as with all car rentals it is the stated car or similar. Does anyone know which SUV's are in the "as similar" for this rental group.
As a former rental car employee, everything you said you need to fit should fit in a standard SUV. Each fleet is different but Chevy and Jeep tend to be the most acomodating to rental companies and that is why you see more of those vehicles in rental fleets. The airport locations get the nicest and newest cars.
Rental SUV's rarely seem to have the luggage cover that you would have if you owned the car, so your luggage is on display. The bad guys can recognise a rental car by the bar-code in the windscreen so having luggage visible increases the risk. Balance that against the higher seating position in an SUV which makes dealing with traffic easier.

Also, car rental agencies are notorious for trying to upsell you to a larger vehicle. For and SUV, that can be a substantial increase in price going from something like a perfectly reasonable Toyota Rav-4 to a Ford Explorer or a Jeep. I have only ever been able to rent Toyota Rav-4's in Hawaii. I agree that you are likely to get a different brand.
