Answer 31 of 56: Have just come to realize that my 250,000 miles with American Advantage are worthless when it comes to American Airlines flights.     On AA I pay for FC and typically book anywhere from a week to a few months out. If you're looking at flying on Sunday evenings, Monday mornings or Thursday evenings where flights involved a hub you'll probably find Executive Platinums flying in the cheap seats. Also quite a lot of aircraft have smaller cabins now.

    A "platinum" credit card is an entirely different thing than "platinum" frequent flyer status in American Airlines' AAdvantage frequent flyer program. If this is your first flight, it's obviously not the latter, so you'll have to read the terms and conditions that came with the card, including how you claim some of the benefits it provides.
