AAdvantage is the frequent-flyer program of American Airlines. Launched May 1, 1981, it was the second such loyalty program in the world (after the first at Texas International Airlines in 1979) and remains the largest, with more than 115 million members as of April, 2021.

On AA I pay for FC and typically book anywhere from a week to a few months out. If you're looking at flying on Sunday evenings, Monday mornings or Thursday evenings where flights involved a hub you'll probably find Executive Platinums flying in the cheap seats. Also quite a lot of aircraft have smaller cabins now.

A "platinum" credit card is an entirely different thing than "platinum" frequent flyer status in American Airlines' AAdvantage frequent flyer program. If this is your first flight, it's obviously not the latter, so you'll have to read the terms and conditions that came with the card, including how you claim some of the benefits it provides.
