Take this very seriously, cars are broken into daily in the open lots. I stayed with my car at the W on Chartres in the French Quarter in January.
1. Re: Best parking for FQ / Jackson Square. 1 year ago. I have found the French Quarter parking close to the Jackson Brewery building (Premium lots P401 and P404 most convenient. Have found the the French Market annex lots (actually in the portion of Marigny adjoining the "lower" French Quarter), Premium lots P408 & P409, to be the best value.
Then, for the rest of the trip we either walked or took the trolley with the 3 day unlimited pass for $9.00 each. Our hotel was only 3 blocks from the cruise port, so we ended up just walking to the port on debarkation day. I never did see a car rental pick up or return on all our walks, either. We saw quite a few other people pulling suitcases ...
2. Re: Parking for the day near Jackson square. The most convenient, though not least expensive, parking lot is next to The Shops at Jax Brewery; enter at the corner of Decatur Street and Toulouse Street. There are also slightly less convenient and expensive lots around the French Market; see:

Also, the website of the New Orleans Convention & Visitors Bureau has a page that is "Just for Travel Agents" that lists some other 2006 Pre/Post Cruise Packages. Some include free or discounted parking.
