Car rentalsat the airport are expensive, but for a week rental Payless is about $150 less than your Hertz, Budget, etc. Read some horror stories on this forum regarding Payless but it can probably be said about all car rental companies.
The best I could get at Dollar was $444 for the week. The round trip shuttle will cost $90, but rentals in Colorado Springs are about $250 less than Denver, and since I'm working for a non-profit, I'll probably go ahead and do that. It's hard to belief the difference in prices between the two cities.
You can join a rental cars gold club or executive club or whatever and then usually skip the lines. Last time I rented a car (not denver) I was 2nd in line. By the time I go the car there were 25 people lined up. My review would have been great, and everyone else would have said the line was forever.

When I went to sign the contract, it was $120 more than I had reserved. He explained it cost $10 per every partial of full day for a spouse to drive plus tax.
Payless charged our credit card for the higher amount on the day we started our rental. Upon our return, we called to straighten out the charges. They claim we turned the car in one day later than we did and have said the only way to prove we turned it in is to provide a faxed copy of our boarding passes.
