The Denver airport rental prices are very expensive compared to other cities around the country. Last summer I used the Enterprise on Quebec. I only had to wait about 20 minutes for the shuttle from the airport and about the same time coming about to the airport. No problems and my rental was about half the price of the airport rental.

When I went to sign the contract, it was $120 more than I had reserved. He explained it cost $10 per every partial of full day for a spouse to drive plus tax.
Payless charged our credit card for the higher amount on the day we started our rental. Upon our return, we called to straighten out the charges. They claim we turned the car in one day later than we did and have said the only way to prove we turned it in is to provide a faxed copy of our boarding passes.
The Payless counter is not located inside the terminal, as is the case with other car rental companies at Denver. The problem is that once we got to the offsite counter we realized there was an extremely long wait, with no chance to walk over to another company without returning to the terminal via shuttle and taking a different shuttle.
The best I could get at Dollar was $444 for the week. The round trip shuttle will cost $90, but rentals in Colorado Springs are about $250 less than Denver, and since I'm working for a non-profit, I'll probably go ahead and do that. It's hard to belief the difference in prices between the two cities.
