I'd buy the JR pass and use it for the ride in from Narita to Tokyo and back as the fare is about $30 US. Also you can use it for the JR lines in Tokyo. You can spend $10/day on train tickets in Tokyo so if you ride mostly on the JR lines it saves you there too.
