You needed to keep a balance on it. Your phone must be unlocked to use the sim. I would imagine that it would work if you are a telcel US customer with a phone locked to telcel but I'd check that. You need to turn your phone off and on for the sim to take. It should work in Mexico, US and Canada. Mine does.
8. Re: Purchase Telcel America SIM Card in USA. I'm (and my spouse) using a small regional cellphone carrier in US, so let's assume that I can't simply add roaming to my current plan. If I get an AT&T prepaid SIM and add Mexico roaming, it will cost about $60 per line, so $120 total for two lines.

As for near the airport, many Oxxo's, Circle K's and Go Mart's sell them. And the road from the airport into Cancun has many such places to choose from.
Telcel has excellent coverage, is rare it would leave me without signal, and I traveled all over in Mexico. SIM card is easy to buy inside Mexico, Government requires SIM Cads to be registered, so vendors in Mexico could help to do, thought is easy, you just need to send SMS with personal data, Mexicans send CURP, I do not know how foreigners register line on their names ....
