   I ended up booking direct with Alamo car rental. I like Alamo because as a member of their free Insiders club I got a small discount (maybe 5%) off the price, but more importantly I can check in online and avoid the airport check in desk by simply going to the lot and picking out my car. So for me I don't see a great advantage to Priceline anymore.

   In the past Canadians have been able to book US Costco Travel rates by plugging their corporate & coupon numbers into the actual car company's websites. If I had not gotten the bid I would have gone with Costco / Alamo, and their prices for midsized, standard, and full size were all the same.
