33 helpful votes. 4. Re: Car rental without credit card. 6 years ago. Enterprise, National, and Alamo policy is they won't accept Visa credit cards that have the word "Debit" on them. That doesn't mean that they won't take them, but you could get someone that is a stickler for policy. Report inappropriate content.

Call around to some of the Name brand companies and explain you do NOT use credit cards. I have heard through the radio talk show with Dave Ramsey that they will accept debit.

The problem with using a debit card (pre paid or not) is that in addition to the charge for renting the car the car company will put a hold on more money as insurance that you actually bring the car back. There are ways to get around it, but they need a credit card and will put a large hold on it, or need an equally large amount of cash as a deposit.

We are now on their system saying no credit card and we now never get asked at any airport. Did once get an email from Dollar stating that a $300 cash deposit may be required but was never asked for.
