My partner and I visited the 16th Street Mall in downtown Denver many times in July, 2012. The mall is a pedestrian friendly (cars are not allowed) oasis of bars, restaurants, a theater, street entertainment, etc. It appears to be very safe, except perhaps very late at night.
Too bad 16th St. has deteriorated. The construction is the majority of the street. Loud, dirty, smelly, unappealing site. Solicitors and homeless standing in the sidewalks. Some ask for money. To call the mall a mall is embarrassing for Denver. Majority of shops and bars are permanently closed.
