   Dollar car rental has had some real bad reviews and I just wondered if anybody on this forum had expierenced them? There is a saving of about £55 between Dollar and Hertz.    Three things seem to account for this, increased consolidation (eg, Thrify/Dollar are the same company, and Hertz is trying to buy it, Enterprise owns Alamo and National). Secondly, the rental companies have reduced their fleets, and third, airport taxes and fees seemed to skyrocket (roughly 1/3 of my rental bill from LAX is for taxes and fees)

   Thanks for all the info. we are going to have a car from a monday to the next tuesday. Start in SF drive down the coast to Southern CA and end up in LA. I will try all your suggestions. Have car rentals gone up a lot in the past 2 years?
