Priceline.com has a feature called 'Name Your Own Price' and I believe the way it works is you enter a price that you'd be willing to pay for a flight to wherever it is that you'd like to go, and if they find an airline who accepts your offer, your credit card will automatically be charged and you'll be booked on that flight.
Priceline.com haven't charged me for ticket I booked?! 7 years ago. I recently purchased a flight ticket through Priceline.com. However, when I checked my bank, the $161 hasn't came out of my account. I called up my bank and they said that there were no pending transactions coming out of my account and they suggested that I call the airline.
So I say; same airline required the positive reviews of Priceline and the volume of airline ticket sales make the case that: YES Priceline is reliable. My brother is a 30 yr employee (intl flight attendant) for Delta Airlines and he uses Priceline all the time. (Granted, he uses priceline for hotels and not flights, since he flies for free.)
