The bigger companies won't rent till later in the afternoon. I called 24 hour rent a car because i wanted a car first thing.. They don't have a shuttle, they picked us up in the vehicle we were going to use, fine with me. They were timely. Checking the vehcile out was easy, the employee was really nice.
Dropping Off Car at LAX. 2 years ago. We will have a car rental for our stay at the Loews Hollywood Hotel. Our plan is to drop it off at the LAX location when we have to fly out. Our flight is very early, 8am, so we will probably be leaving for the airport around 4am. It doesn't look like the car rental places are in terminal (Budget).

Based on the dates you have provided I have checked with Hertz (my preferred supplier) and compared picking up and dropping off at LAX, and doing the same at the Inglewood location just down the road from the airport. Cost for a Group C car, LAX US$1011 vs Inglewood US$236. No trouble with Hertz crossing state lines.
