The Westin Denver hotel is directly next the the Denver Airport Main Terminal. While the hotel is not directly attached, you walk 200 feet from the hotel (outside, covered) into that main terminal. It's very easy. The hotel is 100 yards away, right next to the Main Terminal. It’s all in the same place.

Never heard "illegal" used in this context, but the meaning is that the connection is shorter than the airline's minimum time.

Last time I connected on United/United Express (a couple of years ago), it was a bit of a hike from the far end of the terminal where my smaller plane landed to the main part of the terminal where the larger planes arrive/depart.
