    Both are easily accessible on your route from NYC to Boston. Mystic has a great aquarium, great waterfront area, traditional New England fishing village feel. Agree with I-81 to I-84 but be aware that I-84 can get very congested through Hartford, CT if you're there anywhere near the rush hour. There are work-arounds, however. Get off I-84 and follow I-691 east to I-91 north back to I-84 east.
