Maybe not in Toronto but in many European cities you'll notice Google gives walking directions that are very different then driving. They have to deal with pedestrian only zones and other short cuts.
Google Map France can also be downloaded for offline use. You just won't get live traffic. Map use doesn't consume a ton of data anyway. I have an old but still kicking Garmin as well. I still use it when I drive in foreign countries. I then use Google Map as a back-up, primarily for searches.
1. Re: Google Maps walking times. First, use the subway. If you choose to walk, I would add 10 minutes for short distances and 20+ minutes for long distances, just to be safe. Once you start to understand how long it takes you to walk from A to B across streets/avenues, then you can adjust.

31. Re: Google maps-offline walking directions? 5 years ago. Using the walk mode is very difficult in Italy. It can be done, but is very frustrating. It will not notify you if you walk off the path. No "recalculating" mode, you just walk off the map until you discover that you are going the wrong way.
Create walking direction with as many stops as you could in your android google maps, or on laptop and send directions to your phone. Keep it on your screen as separate item. Download offline map for that area and you can open your directions anywhere. Also you can convert it to kmz and send to mapsme app, but this needs some google search ...
As mentioned, the Google Maps walking directions are ideal for your questions. They include an estimate of the amount of time to walk, but remember that's not based on a tourist pace, so do add some time.
