You may find credit card slower if you have to sign to use an overseas card, but some places take Apple /Google Pay as well. I think you will find few places now that are cash only. Personally I use a bank ATM on arrival to withdraw maybe $100USD in local currency, and use my credit card for nearly everything.

The short version of why I want to do this is to be able to get stuff like Amazon Kindle, Hulu etc that are often only available to those using a credit card with a US billing address.
Pattie, my experiences with several new credit cards lately is that I recall several arrived within a week. Those were Bank of America and Capital One. (They got me with 0% promotional rate until July 2020, and a $200 and $300 bonus.

You will need cash for a few things like if you go a farmers market or flea market or for tips. I would not carry a bunch since you can always get more at an atm or store with your card. Report inappropriate content.
Have you looked at the Alaska Airlines credit card? Every year you get a certificate for "$99 Companion Fare". You buy one ticket to Hawaii and another person flies for $99. In that scenario you can't use miles for the purchased ticket. You are also building miles, though, so you can use those miles for another trip to Hawaii!
