Thrifty car rentals did a bait and switch, waiting for me to arrive to tell me that my reserved vehicle was not available. They then charged me 3x what my reservation was for to get a similar but smaller vehicle after I refused to pay $400+ for a suburban. Ny $117 van cost me $360 for 3 days.

Thrifty Honolulu airport rent a car sent a letter charging $43.00 for gas after a week we returned the car with full gas. The charge is being disputed with the same credit card company we charged the gas prior to returning the car to Thrifty. Looks like most reviews had the same issues of scamming car renters with additional charge for gas!
Answer 11 of 30: I never thought that I would be posting a car rental complaint, yet here I am. First, some background. I have been travelling to Costa Rica for 20 years, usually once or twice a year, Likely a total of 25 to 30 times.
There are not words for how bad this location is on May 20, 2023. 2+ hours and there's still no sign of our car. Customer service is so lacking that there's almost no one to complain about! If you are reading this, change your reservation now, the process only gets worse. Kauai should be embarrassed that this is how I and the other 100 people ...
Terrible service -- took nearly two hours to finally drive off. Return of car was equally time-consuming and complicated. Hertz and Thrifty run by the same guys, so not much incentive to care about customer service.
