I always use ATT when I travel internationally, it costs $10 a day for an international plan, it automatically turns on and off when you leave the country and when you return. Unlimited talk and data so if the wifi isn't good I use my phone as a hot spot and teether my laptop to the phone.

   The person I would be calling home to in the state (also an AT&T cellular customer)called AT&T to see if they would be getting charged for the calls from Mexico. They were told $1.00 a minute. I have called twice since then to double check. Each time I'm told it will not be charged against the caller in the states, only me.

It works fine most of the time, my husband has to use his cell phone, as it's his business phone. In case you're interested, there are bars that have toll free calls home if you order food or drink.

We have AT&T and we have an international plan that puts the price at something like $1 a minute. The service on the phone was LIME, but it worked seamlessly with AT&T.
