We buy the coverage from the rental company. We had a friend whose rental car was damaged by a hotel valet employee. It became a huge mess between the hotel, rental car agency, our friend and his personal auto insurance that took months to come to a conclusion. Since then, we bite the bullet and pay the extra.
10. Re: Car rental through Costco by non-member. 10 years ago. Costco changed their procedure a couple years ago to require the Costco member number in order to make a reservation. Prior to that, pretty much anyone could book using their codes and the rental companies rarely asked to see the Costco membership card.
1. Re: Booking car rental through Costco. 4 years ago. The way I have done it:: Alamo has "Skip the counter option". Become a loyalty member with Alamo. Rent through Costco. Take the Costco/Alamo confirmation #, go to the Alamo site using your loyalty number. Look up your reservation with the # .
Costco did indeed change the car rental process on their website a couple of years ago.....however plugging in the code on the car rental website..I.e. Budget, Alamo....still works. I just returned a vehicle the other day with a Costco discount code applied booked in the manner I describe. No issues .

9 reviews. 2 helpful votes. costco rental cars. 2 years ago. HI just reserved an intermediate car from costco for 1 week in June 2022. The price was $459 with navigation. Payment due when I get car. Definitely worth reserving ahead of time.
