   You complete OLCI as normal and then select send the boarding pass to a phone option. You then open it and it shows a QR code which is held to the scanners at the airport. Many airlines have specific apps which are geared up to issuing QR boarding passes. Pretty efficient system IMO.

   Those apps that read barcodes/qr-codes are there to scan codes which then direct you to a publicly accessible web page or information. The barcode on your BP is there to be scanned by security or at the gate at the airport. Stop worrying about inconsequential things. Even if your BP didnt work they could just print another one out at the airport.
