The E-Pass sticker is free, Sun Pass sticker is $5. There used to be a big price difference between the two for the portable transponder, but now they both are $15. E-pass gives a better discount on many roads around Central Florida (used to anyway) and gives an additional discount for frequent users.
It isn't $12 or anything else per day. I have a Sunpass account. Now, the rental car company might have an all inclusive option, but the transponder doesn't have a fee once purchased. A convenience fee of $6 for only the days you use tolls through the rental company doesn't sound that bad. I-95 through South Florida SUCKS.

Although the sticker is only $5, you may or may not get it off the windshield. The portable transponder with the suction cups is going to cost more than the $19.75 maximum admin fees charged by rental's toll program. If you plan on returning to Florida, I would get a portable transponder.
10 years ago. The rental car uses one of two methods for paying for the tolls. 1. It may have a transponder attached to the windscreen and this has an on/off switch ... make sure it is off. 2. They may use a toll-by-plate method to pay for the tolls. If there isn't a transponder then the toll-by-plate method is used.
You need Sunpass. The easiest way is to pay the rental car company their sunpass fees per day and be on your way. This can add up so some people buy a stick on transponder for $5 ish and stick it on the windscreen of the car and set up a sunpass account and load some money on it.
