In fact, I got the credit card last year for the sole reason that we were planning a trip and this seemed like a great way to essentially get 2 flights for half the price of 1.
Re: Hawaiian does not allow earn miles for wife. "she has to have her own account and has to purchase the ticket separately." She does have to have her own frequent flier account but anyone can pay for her ticket in order for her to get the miles. It does not have to be separate from yours.

In fairness Southwest advertises no change fee and in fact gives you a credit if you book a lower priced flight. You can even rebook the same flight if the fare drops and get a credit for the difference.

When I first got my HA card you got 5,000 miles on your anniversary, 2 free drinks, 50%off companion voucher and free head phones . Then it went to no drinks, no head phones, and 2,500 miles and no 50% off companion fare.
