   There are also very good and free map apps like maps.me which allow you to download maps. These should provide you with detailed road maps. Both will work off-line (ie. No cell or wifi access) and will use your phone gps to find your location. However, if you need detailed trail maps or elevations etc, you will need to buy a proper paper map.

   The OSI also have a free map which shows Ireland in or about 1905 and also around 1835. both have the zoom-in facility which is useful to look at localities as the were in times past. The home page starts with the current but just use the window on the right to select which 'older' version you want.
