Feb 16, 2012 at 4:07 PM. @Cindy772012, put some ice on it for five minutes. It's suppose to contain the growth before it starts. I've done it and it worked. just don't leave it on too long, you don't want to give yourself frostbite. I don't use Abreva. I found it to be ineffective and nasty. I'm a Carmex girl.

I probably should’ve never looked. your dr might be able to prescribe you an oral medication like acyclovir if you have a bad cold sore breakout. Not sure if it’s safe while pregnant but I think it could be. I use Carmex everyday for chapped lips and I’m 10 weeks pregnant never heard carmex was not safe before.

Sep 22, 2024 at 3:25 AM. normal cold sore cream is fine to use. it doesn't make much difference overall, but it's better than nothing. i also find that rubbing alcohol can help kill it a bit if you catch it early on, but it's not recommended because it can cause more irritation. if you've had one before then you'll always be able to get them ...

I got one only during my pregnancy so I didn’t end up needing the medicine but I would ask since this is your second one.
