The potential issue with using Debit is that any pre-authorisation ("hold") placed on your card is held against your money, rendering it inaccesible for any other purpose until it's cleared/settled. So your account has to contain enough to cover this pluds your actual spends.

There are 2 problems with this (and the main reason I say to have one CC for travel even if you don't usually use one). First is they can and will put a charge on your debit card.
Hi Traveldays. We have only ever used a credit card at the car hire.They normally put a hold on the money so i can say how a debit card would work. my advice would be though if you are in a position to get a credit card even if it only has a smallish limit on it then try and get one and take it.
