The August long weekend holiday Monday has different names across the country: BC Day, Terry Fox Day, Natal Day, Civic Holiday etc. but there is not actually a provincial holiday in Alberta on that weekend. Alberta's "Heritage Day" was replaced by Family Day in February.
Early August includes a long weekend, the absolute busiest time of the year (at an already busy time of year); the long weekend is Aug. 4 to 7 this year. All accommodations typically sell out in the national parks, including camping, hotels, hostels and cabins.
You are right about the cost of hotels in the Rockies in summer. You would have to increase your nightly budget for a summer stay in Banff/LL/Canmore. HI International Hostel is offering a Private Room (Max 2 Persons) for $288 per night and a Bed in a 6-Bed Mixed Dorm Ensuite WC for $95 per night in July 2024.

For flights, I think it's a bit soon, as booking as soon as flightsare released 11 or 12 months on advance, is rarely the best price. Edited: 1 year ago.
