very nice customer service agent answered and informed me that AA had just issued a travel waiver today, that allowed her to cancel our flights, reinstate our award points.and waive the fees ($350 total fees as we had two separate pnrs, one outbound, one return.)

AA told me to contact Iberia to reissue the ticket. However, since Iberia's customer service has not been great in my experience, I asked the AA representative to contact Iberia on my behalf. She did so, and Iberia reissued the ticket, confirming my reservation on all of my flights (both ways). Shout out to Kasey at AA for being the best!!
Terrible American Airlines experience. Our flight to Dallas was delayed (eventually cancelled) so we missed connecting flight to honolulu. Rebooked us the next day ( I was on hold for 2 hrs to talk to someone—11pm-1am) which cost the 4 of us $350 for two hotel rooms addl night, and $400 for seat upgrades to get only remaining seats on connecting flight.
