33 helpful votes. 4. Re: Car rental without credit card. 6 years ago. Enterprise, National, and Alamo policy is they won't accept Visa credit cards that have the word "Debit" on them. That doesn't mean that they won't take them, but you could get someone that is a stickler for policy. Report inappropriate content.
1. Re: Renting a car without a credit card. 14 years ago. Many car rentals will say they do not take debit cards, but this isn't true. Call around to some of the Name brand companies and explain you do NOT use credit cards. I have heard through the radio talk show with Dave Ramsey that they will accept debit.
3. Re: Renting a car without a credit card. I personally would not travel without at least 2 cards - one debit, one credit, payment on phone linked to one of these cards - and a small amount of cash. When you are abroad, you need a few back up plans.
According to the link above Advantage will debit your card the total of the rental plus up to $140 deposit. So, if your rental total is $200 plus a $140 deposit= $340 debited from your card immediately and then the deposit refunded some days after you return the car. Again, all companies do not have the same policy. Read the T&Cs.
