   As of January 9, Amtrak restructured the fare discounts. AAA and student discounts were dropped, senior discount was reduced from 15% to 10% and child reduced fares changed to 1 per fare paying adult down from 2 per adult.

   I agree that the AAA discounted rates are typically more than you can find through other resources. I recently booked train tickets with TGV -Europe from Paris to Metz and Nancy to Paris for three of us. Price totalled $170. Walk up fares would be $317. I priced the same trains on Rail Europe, just for chuckles.

   AAA does exist- I still have it- but a lot of companies are dropping from it like flies. I think it’s on it’s way out. It used to help maybe 60% of the time, and now it’s more like 30%. So Amtrak is just one more company following a trend.
