Google maps or a sat nav is ok, but please purchase a road atlas.....usually available for about £5 at petrol stations. If there’s no signal, or if you want to plan over distances a paper map is far more accommodating, as well as highlighting terrain, points of interest etc.

Re: Are google map driving times accurate for UK? They are reasonably accurate if you use them immediately before setting off as they reflect ( to a certain extent) current road conditions. Otherwise, for planning purposes they are a useful guide but don't rely on them if timing is crucial to the journey. 10.
