Turkish Airlines offered me accommodation at a hotel, but since I required a Turkish visa, I was instructed to obtain it myself and seek reimbursement later. I trusted this promise, secured the visa, and later contacted Turkish Airlines for the promised refund. However, they refused, claiming that accommodation and food had already been provided.
It's not exactly free (~$25) but it's cheaper than the standard 1 yr. visa on arrival ($128) or E-Visa ($143). You then get the Transit E-Visa in your email. Seems like this is available to all nationalities. The only requirement being you fly with one of the Saudi carriers (Saudia or Flynas) and get the visa during the flight booking process.
