Wife and I are coming to visit Portugal for a week and are looking to rent a car to drive from Lisbon down to Lagos and the south coast for a few days. Just looking for recommendations for companies to book with (or companies NOT to book with). I drive standard and will have my international driver's license. Thanks in advance!
6 years ago. You won't find ANY car rental companies without bad reviews. People give bad reviews for a number of reason but the majority of reasons are unwarranted when it comes to the better companies. Companies to avoid will be Firefly, Maggiore, Goldcar and Locauto. These are bad companies and should be avoided at all costs.
I have used Oasis car rental on Pico and Hertz on Sao Miguel. Oasis is the local company on Pico. So they were very flexible. Changing pick up location for free on last minute due to changes of ferry schedule etc. And yes, they rent also scooters. Ilha Verde was the most popular at the airport of Ponta Delgada. The number of complaints is a tiny fraction of the number of rentals, but the vast majority who had no problem are not motivated to get online and post a rant. Generally you will have least problems if you use one of the major companies: Avis, Europcar, Hertz. 2.

We like using AutoEurope to book as their staff are very helpful, compare major companies prices, help you pick the best carand add-ons for your needs. They offer reasonable insurance too.
