Most other airlines do not. Usually, it's a $150 change fee per ticket plus any refare, for a domestic ticket.
Then the refund takes longer. It's an old accounting trick--you use other people's money as long as you can by delaying your payables, yet for receivables (tickets) you demand cash on the spot. Their own policy says this: Credit card refunds will be processed within seven business days of the request.

I have never flown United before but on other airlines they have held connections for up to 30 minutes especially for international flights. Aparantly not so with United. First thing I do is call the united number for help as I am running to the gate to see if the board was correct in the flight has already departed.

And, if you are eligible for reimbursement. You are limited to $200, which includes hotel, meal and transportation.

United bumped my daughter from a Thanksgiving week flight due to overbooking and promised to mail a refund check to me (the purchaser). The first week of December they told her it was in the mail. One month later, it's still not here. I went online to the refund page but when I put in her ticket number it came up "not found."
