Most other airlines do not. Usually, it's a $150 change fee per ticket plus any refare, for a domestic ticket.

And, if you are eligible for reimbursement. You are limited to $200, which includes hotel, meal and transportation.

It is a sport or video game, fairness has nothing to do with it. Others have to pay for the tickets you get for free. I have obtained UA mile refund a day before trans-Pacific flight, and upgraded to business class, as that seat became a saver seat. Can be done, but not a straightforward.
