Expedia is an online site and so isn't set up for a lot of phone support. It may be difficult to get them on the phone. I use them regularly but have never tried to call them and I don't see an obvious customer support phone# on their website.

If you are unfamiliar with sim cards, the best way to get set up is to wait until you arrive in Australia and go to a phone shop at the airport. Optus has shops at the main ternational terminals, or go to Telstra in the city. You will need passport ID. The phone shop will insert the sim and activate it.
8. Re: Expedia Customer Service. 11 years ago. We had issues with their customer service as well via phone and email. They put my bf on hold for over 50 minutes then called again and was in hold 40 min. Finally we complained on twitter, posted the call log for anyone to see and tagged (@expedia) them.
Since I do not know what Expedia's answer to this dilemma would be, it is hard to weigh my options. Like the OP and others, I am curious how one gets Expedia's attention other than being on the phone for hours trying to get through. They apparently do not have an email option, and the Chat feature has proven to be useless.
First step, ask your credit card company if you have been charged by Expedia. Second step (if the answer was "yes") phone Expedia. Note that when posting in a forum, phrases such as "tried to contact Expedia" don't mean anything, be specific.
