7 reviews. 15 helpful votes. 1. Re: Kayak vs airline: where & when to book. 11 years ago. Kayak is a search engine - they don't sell the flights. They refer you to the airline or a 3rd party company. Most search engines don't have real time prices. Report inappropriate content.

    2. Re: buying a ticket through kayak. Kayak is more like a search engine for flights and while they now have arrangements to book via kayak the actual booking is done via another 3rd party. Honestly I would search for the same route on kayak google flights or skyscanner and then book with the airline directly.

Kayak is very reputable and has a good reputation. Cofounders of Expedia, Travelocity, and Orbitz started KAYAK in 2004. You can book nothing directly through Kayak. They compare prices on other sites and send you to that site for booking. The Airfare .com is also reputable, having been around for about 35 years.
