The problem in dropping it off thr night before is many hotel don’t operate shuttles for flights pre 7am. Many national car rental companies allo early am drop car off and put keys in a box.

I ought to know the answer to this, but sadly don't. I hate taking the shuttle from the terminal to the rental car facility garage; takes forever. I can always find the walkway when returning a car, but can't seem to find it when picking up a car. Of course when I'm leaving, I don't think about turning around to see where I came from.

Just wanted to echo these views - just hired a car from Alamo LAX for 15 days. Very reasonable rates, incredibly helpful staff (thanks Ray at the desk and Rayle with the GPS help), very quick to pick up/drop off, rapid shuttle service back to the airport with a helpful driver and a terrific car .
